Walker’s will host the third annual Holiday Basketball Tournament in the Centennial Center. Proceeds from the tournament will support Special Olympics. Other schools attending the tournament include The Hotchkiss School, Cheshire Academy, Beaver Country Day, Westminster School, Miss Hall’s, Canterbury School and Hamden Hall.
Walker’s opens tournament play with a game at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14 against Hotchkiss with all other teams playing their first round games on Friday. Each team will play two games on Saturday, December 15, and will be placed into brackets based on Friday evening results.
“When we opened the Centennial Center, the idea of a tournament was one of the first ideas that came to mind,” said Athletic Director and varsity basketball coach John Monagan. “With side-by-side courts, we have the opportunity to host multiple games at the same time. This has allowed us to invite a large number of schools and to create a great tournament for all participants.”
With several New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A and Class B teams, and some strong Class C teams, the tournament continues to draw attention from schools around New England.
“The tournament is always a great test for us,” said Monagan. “We play three games in less than 24 hours, so we get lots of basketball against strong opponents. Obviously our hope is to come out of the weekend with three wins.”
