vs. Pomfret School

On Wednesday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team traveled to Pomfret for a WWNEPSSA Class C Contest. Walker’s continued their road woes by falling 4-1 on the afternoon to remain winless away from home.

Gigi Peña ’26 scored the opening goal of the game for Walker’s 15 minutes into the contest when she combined with Maya Atwood ’26 on a wall pass and tucked her shot into the lower right corner. The Griffins responded five minutes later when they played a long ball through the center of the field that put in their center forward alone to goal and the score remained 1-1 into halftime.

In the second half, Walker’s continued to press and created chances, but seven minutes after the break, the home side scored to take the lead for good. On the day, Walker’s outshot their opponents 13-9 and forced Pomfret’s goalie into seven saves. They could not find the back of the net, and Pomfret scored twice in the final five minutes to put the game out of reach.

Walker’s will return to action on Saturday when they travel back to the northeast corner of the state for another WWNEPSSA Class C contest against Marianapolis. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00.
