Game Summary

The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team hosted Kent on a beautiful fall afternoon. Walker’s earned their second win of the season with a 4-1 scoreline to bring their record to 2-1. On the day, the home side outshot Kent 22-4, forcing Kent’s goalkeeper into eight saves.
In the opening half of play, Walker’s controlled the contest early on, but it took until the 31st minute to take the lead. Lucie Martinelli ’27 found the back of the net after she broke into the penalty box from the right side. It was the team’s 11th shot, and they went into halftime with a one-goal lead.
In the second half, the Wildcats continued to put the pressure on, and Martinelli scored her second goal of the game in the 54th minute. Lauren Krupnikoff ’23 won the ball in the middle of the field and played it through to the right side of the field. Martinelli’s shot from 18 yards out was a laser to the top left corner.
Less than two minutes later, Sophie Martinelli ’25 chased down a pass from Martha O’Donnell ’23 on the left side of the field and slotted home her second goal of the season to give Walker’s a 3-0 lead with 24 minutes on the clock. The home team then took a four-goal lead when they scored from a corner kick. Sophie Martinelli played a ball to the back post where Ayden Riendeau ’26 was first to it. Her touch found Krupnikoff, who stayed composed and finished into the roof of the net. Kent scored on the game’s final kick off a corner of their own to take away the shutout.
Walker’s will host Berkshire in their next contest on Wednesday, September 28. The game is set to kick off at 3:00 p.m.
