On Saturday afternoon, Ethel Walker’s varsity soccer team traveled to Loomis Chaffee for a tough Founder’s League contest. For Walker’s, it was their second game of the season after falling 3-2 on the road at Greens Farms on Wednesday.
Loomis took control of the game early creating a handful of opportunities and opened the scoring in the 11th minute. They found the back of the net on a header that came directly from a corner kick. Just four minutes later, the Pelicans doubled their lead when they broke on the right side of the field and found the corner on a low driven shot.
The game would stay 2-0 for the rest of the first half despite multiple chances from the home side. After the break, Walker’s found themselves dictating a little bit more of the play and created a couple of chances attacking the width of the field. In the 52nd minute, they earned a free kick near the sideline.
Emily Sanchez ’26 played the ball near the penalty spot where it deflected to Maya Atwood ’26 at the top of the box. Atwood smashed a one-time effort on goal for the first Founder’s League goal of her career. For Sanchez, it was her first assist in just her second game for Walker’s.
Both teams found a little bit of momentum throughout the rest of the game, but Loomis created the best chances. Jenna Hamel ’25 was up to the task in the net for Walker’s finishing with 11 saves on the day as neither team scored again.
Walker’s will face another Founder’s League opponent in their next contest when they host Hotchkiss in their first home game of the season. Kick-off on Wednesday is scheduled for 3:00.
