“Hey there! I’m Ava, and I’m part of the Class of 2025. I started at Walker’s as a day student during my freshman year. Being a Cicerone means a lot to me because I love welcoming prospective families and showing them the amazing community at Walker’s which has become like a second home to me.”
One of the most memorable classes I took was Biology in my junior year, taught by Dr. Bernardo. The engaging classroom environment, whether during labs or lecture sessions, made the subject matter enjoyable. The environment helped me make connections between complex topics during class, which aided my overall growth as a student.
In my first year at Walker’s, I was nervous about embracing the new and unique experience, and as a result, I didn’t challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone. Over time, I have noticed my comfort zone expand as I’ve become more engaged with the community and found my place within it. Eventually, I became confident enough to run for a prominent position in the Big 7, delivering a speech in front of the entire community — something that would have been horrifying for me during my freshman year.
Every day I look forward to spending time with my teammates and coaches at practice, especially after a long day of classes. It’s a great feeling to forget about schoolwork and just focus on playing sports and being in the moment with my team.
My advice would be to push yourself and get involved in the community even if it’s just signing up for weekend activities. It’s a great way to get to know your peers outside of school while having fun!
