Paralympian Sydney Satchell ’10 Speaks With Walker’s Athletes

Sydney Satchell '10

Sydney Satchell ’10 arrived to campus this week with a new accessory in tow — her gold medal from the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. As a libero on the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team, Sydney and her teammates secured the top pedestal by winning the final match versus China 3-1. The Paralympian spoke to members of Walker’s student-athlete leadership team and others about her experiences reaching Paris and about her time at the Games. Sydney explained that she used it as an opportunity to show her appreciation to those who have supported her through this journey:

“My favorite part about being at the Paralympics was having my family there. They did a lot for me while I was in the hospital […] and so that was the best way to my support system around the world — Walker’s, Howard University, family, friends, near and far — to say thank you. I don’t know a better way to give a heartfelt thank you.”

Her most loved Walker’s tradition? Mountain Day!

Congratulations, Sydney!
