“Hi, I’m Paula and I am a Dial from NYC! I entered Walker’s with the class of 2025 as a freshman boarder. While our school website is marvelous, I would love to give you a more interpersonal glimpse into our community! Walker’s can be exactly what you make of it, whether it be through creating various clubs, joining new sports teams, or running for Student Government – the possibilities are endless. It would bring me great joy to walk-n-talk with you about how your interests can thrive here. The process of choosing the right fit for you can be difficult, but my goal as a Cicerone is to show you that Walker’s might be just what you are looking for. As a Boarding Student and proctor in my residence hall (GO CLUETT!!), I can also fill in all the gaps on why it’s lovely living on our campus. Hope to see you around!”

What is your favorite part about being a boarder?

The close connections you grow with your peers as a boarder is incomparable to bonds I’ve created in other communities. My favorite part is that this is true for teachers as well as classmates. At the end of the day, after study hall, during weekend activities, Community Partnerships, or during holidays, we have the opportunities to build relationships outside of the classroom. Through weekly game nights, volunteering together, haunted houses, sports practices, meals, spiders in my room, ski club outings, or even mudlarking, these interactions maximize my Walker’s experience entirely!

How do you think Walker’s has prepared you for your future?

I could talk to you about how we get certified to prepare tax returns, the opportunities we have to learn about investing hands-on, or the independence that we all grow into, but what has truly opened my perspective on the future are the people. I feel the impact people have on my life and now know the impact I want to have on them. The difference between Walker’s and other schools is its boundless environment which allows you to develop into the best version of yourself. That’s when candid connections with alumni–in our aspiring fields–come into play. That’s when the personal leadership positions found on campus (which help you represent groups of people you care about), let you flourish. That’s when your standards for a splendid community are raised, and you know what you deserve. These are values that will stay with me forever, and I value them just as much as the first 31 words of this response.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

There are 16 pianos dispersed around campus. While I take piano lessons once a week, it is my favorite thing to find one of these perfectly placed pianos, and practice outside of class. Whether it be before the school day starts, a free block, before volleyball practice, or after dinner, there is always a piano available for me to hone in on a passion. Throughout the year there are various recitals or performances to look forward to as a musician on campus. At Walker’s, I have found variously exciting spaces for me to express myself during free time, how will you find yours?
