Game Summary

On Saturday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team hosted Kingswood Oxford in their final regular season game of the fall. The Wyverns had earned a tie and a win over Walker’s during the previous two seasons, but the Wildcats reversed the trend in this Founder’s League contest. With the win, Walker’s finished fifth place in Founder’s League with a 4-4 league record and ended the regular season with a 10-7-1 record overall.
The hosts controlled the run of play for the majority of the first half outshooting Kingswood Oxford 10-2, but the Wyverns kept the game scoreless as their goalie made four saves and Walker’s could not find the back of the net.
In the second half, the Wildcats kept the momentum and put the game out of reach quickly with four goals in the first 14 minutes after halftime. Allison Hayes ’25 scored the opening goal of the game 3:26 into the second half when she received a pass from Ayden Riendeau ’26 at the top of the box. She turned toward the right, beat two defenders and ripped a shot to the back post for her 12th goal of the season. Hayes assisted on the next goal 91 seconds later when Gigi Peña ’26 broke free in the box for the eventual game-winner.
Just under six minutes later, Maya Atwood ’26 scored her ninth goal of the season when she attacked a corner kick from Emily Sanchez ’26 and powered home a header to make it 3-0. Peña would make it 4-0 in the 54 minute when she scored her 16th goal this fall and second of the game. Riendeau assisted on that goal as the two combined at the top of the penalty box.
The Wyverns would get one back 10 minutes later when they scored from a free kick after getting to the second ball first after the initial cross. The final goal came in the 70 minute when Riendeau recorded her third assist of the game – and seventh of the season. Riendeau broke into the box and was stymied initially by the visitor’s goalie. She persisted though and played the ball across the box to Maddie Hemmerich ’27 who slotted it home for her second goal of the season.
With the win, Walker’s earned the #5 seed in the upcoming NEPSAC Class C tournament. They will travel to Newton Country Day School on Wednesday, November 13th for their quarterfinal matchup. It is the second year in a row that the Wildcats have earned a spot in the tournament. Kickoff in Newton, MA is scheduled for 2:00.
